Projects / Sankey Canal: Spike Island Tidal Locks

Sankey Canal: Spike Island Tidal Locks

The project will be in two main parts. Firstly the physical restoration works to make the lock fully operation again. This will be followed by the promotion, marketing and activity part of the scheme including interpretation.
1. A specialist canal restoration consultant will be engaged to work with the project manager to develop the methods to be employed to survey the lock, and the methods to be employed to sensitively repair and restore the locks to fully working order. The specialist will advise and prepare all the relevant information in order to comply with Listing Building Consent that may be required; as well as considering aspects of work that can involve local volunteers learning new skills and helping deliver the restoration work.
2. On completion of the physical works a range of promotional events will be organised in partnership with West Bank Boat Club and Sankey Canal Restoration Society. Please see sheet.
