Projects / Sankey Wildlife Corridor

Sankey Wildlife Corridor

The project aim is to improve a defined area of the Sankey Valley ecologically and environmentally and to recognise its importance for people and wildlife. The Sankey catchment is made up of seven small watercourses which include Sankey Brook, Black Brook, Windle Brook, Newton Brook, Rainford Brook, Sutton Brook and Whittle Brook. From its source on farmland in Rainford, the catchment flows southeast for approx. 18 miles to run into the River Mersey in Penketh. Valuable habitats for species of local and regional importance will be created and restored and access for people provided. Interpretation will acknowledge the industrial heritage and its links to the current landscape / ecology.
