Saul Playing Field – Wild Space Project

The project will create new habitats to attract wildlife, such as the wildflower meadow, and this will attract butterflies, moths, bees and other insects. The meadow area will also provide cover and resting areas for amphibians, reptiles, dragonflies and small mammals due to its close proximity to the pond. Conservation of bats, solitary bees and hedgehogs will be helped by installing bat boxes, hedgehog homes and feeding station and bee boxes. The project will include new areas of log piles and a reptile/amphibian hibernacula near the existing pond to allow for newts, toads, frogs and grass snakes to hibernate or for resting areas. Education will be enhances as areas will be created with groups of children such as The Get Grubby Gang – Wildlife Watch group, and Saul under fives playgroup. This project may also help species that have already been recorded in the area such as otter, eel, white letter hairstreak and turtle dove.
