Saving England's Lowland Juniper

The principal aim of the project is to demonstrate effective regeneration of Juniper and associated plants across lowland England using a strong evidence-based approach. We intend to pilot three different habitat management techniques appropriate to a range of different site and population attributes. To obtain sufficient data to make these trials robust and results meaningful, a multi-site approach will be essential. Consequently, we envisage working on at least 17 carefully selected sites. A partnership of conservation organisations and land managers has been forged. Together we have an ambitious programme combining the foregoing with a public participation survey to ascertain the current status of lowland Juniper; and educational guidance for practitioners and landowners via a number of publications and training events.
