Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels (Aberdeen City)

This is part of a three year national project Saving Scotlands’s Red Squirrels to secure the red squirrel population. The native red squirrel is a priority species under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan (1995). The project will involve employing a Red Squirrel Project Officer and a Grey Squirrel Control Officer both to be based and work within Aberdeen City. The Red Squirrel Officer will promote the Red Squirrel through leafleting, guided walks, community group and school group talks. The Grey Squirrel Control Officer will be responsible for setting and servicing traps, providing a network of trained people willing to humanely dispatch the grey squirrel and monitoring of the change in Red and Grey Squirrel distribution.
