Projects / Saving the Lady Orchid

Saving the Lady Orchid

1) To secure the future of one of Britain’s rarest and most beautiful orchids Lady Orchid (Orchis purpurea) through a programme of volunteer management works and – the subject of this application – through the construction of a small 25 x 25m exclosure to protect the plant at this vulnerable stage from deer predation and damage from orchid photographers; and
2) to provide a model of conservation activity for rare species, by providing a working, costed example of a project to demonstrate how individuals and communities can effectively conserve a rare species, (formal conservation organisations need to be getting on with the landscape scale projects, to address the climate emergency and ecological meltdown).
