This project is about creating good access and bringing an existing woodland into better management for people and biodiversity. The key theme for this project in terms of the local communities is capacityBuilding. Most of the practical conservation work i.e. tree planting and habitat management will be delivered through volunteers, local groups and school children. The Woodland Ranger will build on these links encouraging a sustainable approach. Training and continuous support will be offered to volunteers and school teachers. Both primary schools have indicated they would like to use the woodland not only for the children’s education but for occasional In Service Training Days, this is to encourage the teachers to get out into the natural environment more as the Curriculum for Excellence indicates.
