Scrub clearance and grassland mowing at Beetley Meadow

The project will improve areas of two key priority habitats at Beetley Meadow – Fen and Lowland meadow and pasture – by undertaking scrub clearance and grassland mowing across over 0.8 hectares of land. Fens and wet grassland are dynamic, semi-natural systems and management is required to maintain open plant communities and the variety of their associated species. Without appropriate management, natural processes will lead to scrub and woodland forming. These habitat improvements will benefit several locally uncommon plants including lousewort and bog pimpernel, and five species of orchid. The proposed project will also undertake hazardous tree works to create a safe pathway through Beetley Wood, adjacent to Beetley Meadow, as part of a new circular walk linking Beetley and Hoe Rough.
