Scutchers Acres: Greening and Growing for Tomorrow

This project is aimed at transforming Scutchers Acres – a mosaic of habitats including grassland, woodland, ponds, hedgerows, orchard – into a sustainably managed site for the benefit of people and wildlife a mosaic of habitats including grassland, woodland, ponds, hedgerows, orchard and plantation’s. At present the management of the site is carried out by a small, dedicated Friends Group who carry out small scale management tasks (removal of Indian Balsam, tree pruning). The full potential of the site – for people and wildlife – is yet to be fully realised. Through this project, areas will be fenced and grazing animals introduced to improve the condition of grassland. Specialist surveyors – both professional and amateur – will conduct surveys to assess diversity of animals and plants. The surveyors will also hold training courses for the Friends Group to allow continued monitoring of habitats and species and work on key projects with local schools.
