Seaforth Nature Reserve, Liverpool – Visitor and Habitat Improvements

To deliver much needed habitat creation & restoration ensuring the survival & increase the size of the breeding colony of Common Tern at Seaforth Nature Reserve (SSSI, SPA). Breeding habitat currently relies on a raft system which due to climate change & increased wind speeds is becoming increasingly difficult to sustain. This funding will future proof the reserve against the effects of climate change by implementing permanent anchors for the rafts. Excavation works will create additional land based habitat for approx. 1% of the UK population of Common Tern. & also enhance loafing & breeding areas for red listed Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher & Avocets. The provision of quality paths & viewing areas ensures visitors can enjoy close proximity to wildlife without risk of adversely disturbing roosting and nesting birds. Engage and Train volunteers in carrying out practical infrastructure and habitat management tasks equipping them to help maintain the site, monitor and record the bird assemblages.
