Securing a Sustainable Future for Wildife on RSPB Havergate Island

The aim of the project is to restore and enhance the UK BAP habitat saline lagoon, by establishing an effective, efficient and sustainable infrastructure of water management. This will be done by installing new water control structures, and providing new internal links and ditches. New nesting areas for breeding avocet, little and sandwich tern will be provided by topping selected islands with shingle. The project will enable future sustainable management of Havergate Islands’ internationally important saline lagoons therefore negating the need of intensive mechanical management.
