Securing Attenborough’s Legacy

We are seeking to purchase Attenborough Nature Reserve (ANR) from its owners, CEMEX, and look after it for future years. ANR is one of the UK’s most important sites for wildlife. The site is home to more than of 1,000 recorded species, including 450 types of plants and over 160 bird species. The site encompasses a rich mosaic of habitats and is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, ANR is home to at least 10 of Nottinghamshire’s Biodiversity Action Plan habitats. It has acted as an important ‘green lung’ to the nearby communities of Beeston, Long Eaton and Nottingham since it opened in 1966. Today, the reserve annually welcomes over 500,000 visitors. Good public transport provisions, as well as cycling and walking routes, link the reserve to nearby communities. If we are unable to purchase and manage Attenborough Nature Reserve, there is a strong chance that it will be sold to the highest bidder on the open market, with no guarantee of sympathetic management by the new buyer.
