Securing the Past

This project aims to enhance the Creswell Crags Museum library by creating a repository for community archives which celebrate the archaeology and mining heritage of the limestone heritage area.
The library, into which this archive would be housed requires significant enhancement of the infrastructure as well as the resource itself in order to establish a more flexible and accessible archive. This resource will provide a permanent and sustainable legacy within an area which ranks in the top 15% of the Index of Multiple Deprivation (2008).
The improvements to the resource will create a relaxed, community space, literally on the doorstep, where members of the community can research their area through different resources including oral histories, maps, archaeological archives, photographs and documents. The library would be re-launched in Spring 2013.
Providing this facility will enable Creswell Crags Museum to be a focus and a hub for the local community.
