Sense, Selly Oak – Community Garden Creation (007578)

This project will create an accessible urban community garden outside Sense TouchBase Pears, in Selly Oak, Birmingham. It’s is an accessible, multi-purpose venue, home to Sense services, open to all and visited by 34,000 local people in 2019/20. The community garden will be a place of inspiration and discovery open 6 days a week, free and accessible to all.

For many disabled people, access to the natural environment often involves complicated access and inclusion barriers, which is why improving community facilities via accessibility is the focus of this project. A new garden will bring new audiences to the centre, foster long-term social and environmental benefits, and ensure that everyone, no matter how complex their disabilities, can access joyful sensory experiences of natural spaces.
