Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve Island Creation and Habitat Improvement Project

Kent Wildlife Trust(KWT) wishes to develop Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve through the creation of an archipelago of islands on the southern section of ‘West Lake’ close to the visitor centre.
The creation of the islands will dramatically improve the site for wildlife by for example providing predator-free nesting areas and new feeding habitats for wildfowl and waders as well as improving aquatic habitats in the vicinity.
KWT also wishes to undertakes a series of wider conservation management works across the site to increase the diversity of habitats and species across the wider reserve, particularly the newly leased eastern section. Activities include: a water vole re-introduction programme, pond restoration/creation, supplementary planting of aquatic plants, re-pollarding of veteran trees, lake and riverside habitat improvements, reed bed creation, invasive species control. In addition, these works will be complemented by improvements to the sites physical access.
