Shade Playground

This project addresses the small settlement of Shade, on the outskirts of the market town Todmorden, in Upper Calder Valley (all geographicallly-isolated, key regeneration areas). Shade Recreation Ground is a large former mill dam (drained, filled, covered) which has remained unimproved for 100 years. It is now a bare tarmac expanse of little or no community value. There is a pressing need, supported by 60 local families, to regenerate the small playground to reflect modern design, health, sustainability, natural environment and local heritage issues.
