Shane O'Neills GAC - Community Lighting

The organisation, situated in Co Down, are a focal point the rural village of Camlough providing high quality, accessible and affordable sporting, recreational and social provision. The club provide safe, welcoming and accessible facilities and use sport as a vehicle to address issues such as services and income deprivation.
The proposed project will provide new LED lighting at their facility to better illuminate the pitch during winter and late night training sessions/matches.
The project responds to safety concerns, by improving visibility around the pitch and walkway during dark winter evenings, thereby encouraging year-round physical activity and reducing risks associated with traffic and crime. The club’s 2023 community survey revealed overwhelming support for lighting improvements and highlighted broader needs such as poor health, lack of adequate facilities, and interest in fitness and walking programmes.
