Shepherd’s Lodge Pond, Petworth Park – Restoration

Petworth is a historic house and deer park close to Petworth town center in West Sussex. The project will restore the historic Shepherd’s Lodge pond, preventing further erosion, reversing the loss of biodiversity and creating a scenic feature of the park for the 250,000 annual visitors to enjoy.
Project to include the removal of old structures and pipe work, trees and the dredging of the pond to enable the repair of the original dam and creation of graded edges to allow areas for restoration of native marginal vegetation.

The dam that contained the pond collapsed several years ago. The result of which has been a loss of wildlife and an increase in erosion as surface water is no longer held upstream. Over the years, as climate change continues to provide more extreme seasons, erosion has become even worse.
