Sheringham Park woods and ponds purchase

To acquire a key area of woodland and ponds at Sheringham and manage these for the long-term benefit of wildlife, especially to ensure the viability of Great Crested Newt. An opportunity has arisen to purchase 3 hectares of woodland with two large ponds, in two parcels of 2.45ha and 0.55ha. These parcels of land are of great strategic significance lying adjacent to Trust land. The mixed deciduous woodland has not been managed for many years and whilst it retains some wildlife habitat value, it would be greatly enhanced by judicious thinning and coppicing to encourage ground flora and invertebrates. Several old trees present would benefit from careful management of the surrounding vegetation. The two ponds are of greatest biodiversity importance, as the NT has discovered that they support a breeding population of Great Crested Newt.
