Silver-Studded Blues at Bystock

To create better habitat at our Bystock Nature Reserve for Silver-Studded Blue butterflies. This butterfly has not been present on the reserve since the 1980’s and 1990’s, however, a small number have recently recolonised the site from neighbouring East Budleigh Common. The habitat that has won them back is the creation of large ‘scrapes’ – areas of bare ground from which the fertile top soil has been removed. This project will build on these early successes and create a larger network of scrapes, as well as creating new flight lines from the neighbouring site by thinning vegetation along the boundary of our two sites.
