Silverdale, Clifton – Habitat Management and Community Engagement

This project will improve and increase the local community’s use of Silverdale (a city park in Manchester), resulting in a happier, healthier community, with an increased connection to nature. Silverdale is home to priority habitats of lowland deciduous woodland, heath and wetland areas in desperate need of management.

Using supervised volunteer conservation / habitat management days, the local community will actively improve the site themselves whilst engaging with this natural resource in their community. Specifically, works involve heathland and pond management, tree works, hedge and other planting. Access improvements will also be undertaken (entrance points, fencing, gates and path surfacing), which will encourage community use of the site, reduce anti-social use of the space and will also improve access for maintenance equipment and items required at community events held at the green-space.
