Skelton Grange Adventure Trail

Skelton Grange is a popular community centre and nature area, managed for wildlife and over 6000 visitors and beneficiaries a year. We want to enhance the visitor experience on the site, improving its accessibility, biodiversity and aesthetic quality. Since 2011 we have consulted over 5000 visitors, volunteers and community groups who said they visit Skelton Grange to experience and learn about the natural environment, gain skills and help their community and wildlife. To this end we would like to train and support local volunteers to re-develop our popular adventure trail, a boardwalk walkway through the woods. It is currently suffering from excessive wear and rotting, and we would like to replace it with recycled plastic wood for a sustainable solution. In addition we would like to restore and enhance the paths, ponds, hedgerow, woodland, riverside environs, grassland and meadows on our site that form a crucial wildlife and habitat link in the Lower Aire Valley green corridor.
