Skelton Grange Environment Centre, Leeds – Access the Wild in Leeds

To maintain and improve access for the Leeds community to a wildlife rich green space at Skelton Grange Environment Centre, in a built up area in the south of the city. We want to create better facilities and access to the site, including non-slip surfacing of boardwalks, clear paths, comprehensively reduce the present populations of invasive species such as Himalayan Balsam and Giant Hogweed and create a shaded pond dipping area. Without these, access to certain parts of the site and activities have to be limited, and these improvements will ensure management going forward can be more easily sustained. Most of the people involved in these improvements would be volunteers exchanging skills, knowledge and experience, and the thousands of visitors to Skelton Granage from the surrounding urban and coal field communities will gain from the improvements to access and the enhanced amenity in this otherwise industrial area.
