Slate Pits Wetland Creation

The creation of a new wetland incorporating an ephemeral pond, reedbed and permanent pond on a field on the upland fringe. The wetland will benefit biodiversity, water quality and serve as an educational resource for local and visiting school groups. For the environment: - Improve the condition of the natural heritage of the Hyndburn Brook sub-catchment by delivering physical improvements that will increase the quantity, quality and connectivity of river and woodland habitats. - Better, more integrated management of natural resources through partnership working For people - Training and volunteer opportunities - Knowledge, interpretation and engagement about river ecosystems - Increased health and well-being through improved access For communities - Raise awareness of local natural assets - Empower people to make positive change to their local environment - Connecting people geographically and socially
