Slievenacloy Nature Reserve Fencing

Slievenacloy nature reserve has recently increased in size to approximately 258 hectares – this has meant taking on additional grazing land, the majority of which is an ASSI (Area of Special Scientific Interest).
Ulster Wildlife have received funding for fencing works and the installation of gates to ensure continuity of grazing and meet health and safety and animal welfare standards.

The project will be:
• Removal of approximately 5102.74m of old fence
• Erection of approximately 5296.21m of new fence to DAERA EFS specifications.
• Erection of 14 new gates and disposal of 1 old gate.
• All waste materials (including the old fence-line material and any associated cut scrub, hedging or trees), arising from the work must be removed from the site and disposed of by the contractor at their own cost.

This is necessary to achieve conservation grazing outcomes on the purple moor-grass and rush pasture grassland (a NI Priority Habitat). The grazing contributes to the conservation of ground-nesting birds
