Slung Low – Mobile Orchard

Slung Low is a theatre company based in railway arches known as the Holbeck Underground Ballroom (The HUB) in Holbeck, Leeds. The HUB is a rehearsal space which is available to anyone who is performing in the region as well as a place where new work is presented to an audience. In order to help young artists and groups, Slung Low created a portable community allotment in old bath tubs at The HUB. Those without funds work in the allotment in return for space or equipment. The fruits of the allotment are shared with the community, preserved or turned into soup and shared amongst the audience at shows.

The project involves the expansion of the allotment and the creation of a mobile orchard. The orchard will be used at public performances and, during harvest time, moved to central positions in Holbeck where the fruit can be enjoyed by members of the community. The funding will be used for the purchase of a small greenhouse, fruit trees, containers, plants, seeds, compost and a pallet mover.
