Smalley Hill – big wildlife

Shropshire Wildlife Trust wants to create a nature reserve on Smalley Hill, an ex-landfill
site owned by Veolia. The work would be undertaken by volunteers lead by Shropshire
Wildlife Trust staff with support from contractors when needed. We will implement a
management plan for Smalley Hill to increase the number Great Crested Newts, bats,
barn owls and other amber/ red BAP species of birds. Activity will include improving the
wetland habitat and creating a pond mosaic, managing and clearing scrub, managing
cressula and installing bat and bird boxes. We also want to install boardwalks, a pond
dipping platform and a bird hide to allow the public to use the site without disturbing
wildlife.
