Projects / Solar Panel Installation

Solar Panel Installation

This is a project for the installation of solar panels and a storage battery on the south-facing roof of the Netherton Cricket Club clubhouse. The intention is to fit solar panels across the full length of the building and additionally provide an electric vehicle (EV) charging point on the premises.

The primary objective of the project is to significantly reduce, if not entirely eliminate, the club’s energy costs, which currently represent its largest fixed expense. The long-term financial benefits will be substantial, enabling the club to maintain and expand its service offerings to the local community. Netherton Cricket Club currently hosts four senior cricket sides and also accommodates a charitable cricket organisation, Black Country Health. The club supports three junior cricket teams and has plans to expand its youth programme to include girls' teams. In addition to cricket, the club is home to four junior football teams, including two girls' sides.

Due to current energy costs, the club has been unable to make all its facilities available to every team. The proposed installation will rectify this, allowing full use of facilities such as showers, the electric scoreboard, the clubhouse bar, and more. Furthermore, the addition of an EV charging point will provide a valuable resource for the local community. If the proposed system is financially achievable, the EV charging point will be offered free of charge to club members.

The club also organises several communal events annually, including a family fun day and a car show. The new system will provide the energy capacity to enhance these events without concern for increased operational costs. As Netherton is a low-income and low-esteemed area designated as a neighbourhood priority by the government, the project is expected to contribute positively to local morale and community self-esteem. As a voluntary sports organisation, Netherton Cricket Club plays a critical role in offering a safe, healthy environment for families to socialise and engage in physical activity.
