Solar Retrofit, Grangetown Generations, Cleveland

This is a project to install solar panels to reduce the organisations operating costs. A battery and inverter will be installed to store excess energy for ongoing usage regardless of weather conditions. The solar will allow the centre to use electricity during a power outage as part of the organisations work as a 1st Cleveland Resilience Hub on Teesside. It is also vital to ensure the group can ensure the community has a continued library service and providing access to technology for job seeking, skills and educational training. The centre will provide a warm, safe space for residents to tackle isolation and support those enduring poverty and hardship.

Environmental considerations: No choice over materials, but the nature of installation will positively help protect the environment by reducing energy costs and emissions.

Hard to reach considerations: Promoting the facility on social media, local authority websites, BBC Radio Tees, local newspaper and community magazines. Library is a great place for promoting events and activities to the public.
