Somerset Wood Recycling

The aims of the project are to use the restoration of a Victorian seaside building to engage young people who need to be exposed to a real work environment to gain the many skills, attributes and the experience to find and hold down employment.
For example, we expect to see positive improvements in their problem solving skills, creativity, team work, mathematics, health & safety awareness; and they will also learn to use many of the types of machinery you would expect to find in any joinery. Princes Trust research has shown how unemployment leads to mental and physical ill health in young people. There is a real danger that, as the economy improves and jobs are created, young people who have experiences mainly unemployment of the last few years need to be able to demonstrate to employers that they have, nevertheless, taken opportunities to use their time productively.
