South Lake Discovery Hide – Slimbridge Wetland Centre

This project will convert the existing South Lake Hide at Slimbridge Wetland Centre into a new discovery hide. We have developed the concept of the ‘discovery hide’ in an effort to make the hide experience positive and enjoyable for more of our visitors. These hides encourage people to stay longer and learn more about wetland conservation, wildlife and how to spot it. They are designed and promoted to attract a wide range of visitors, including school groups and families. The South lake hide has been chosen for this conversion due to the large diversity of habitats/species that can be viewed and its location within the main hub of the grounds. Visitors to the hide will have the opportunity to see species such as Shovelers, Black-tailed Godwits and Lapwings. This project will allow the public to view these species in a friendly and comfortable setting which will inspire and educate them on wetland conservation.
