South Solway Mosses National Nature Reserve Project

The project will rehabilitate the hydrology (raise water levels to within 20cm of ground level through the year) on 33.65 ha of degraded raised mire capable of natural regeneration. This will allow the natural regeneration of these parts of the mire by peat forming sphagnum species. There will be a two-fold benefit: restoration of mire biodiversity and a small amount of carbon sequestration (as active mire traps carbon as peat).
