Species Recovery Trust – Protecting Cosnard’s Net-winged Beetle

This project aims to protect Cosnard’s Net-winged Beetle, one of the rarest insects in the country. Currently, this species is known to occur at only 2 sites in the UK. One of these sites is the Wye Valley in Gloucestershire. The beetle lives in ancient beech woodland, relying on dead and dying wood for its survival, and is likely to have declined in line with the loss of our ancient forests. This project aims to undertake practical habitat restoration work in the Wye Valley to improve the habitat for the beetle. This will help to ensure the survival of the beetle into the future.
