Projects / Species-rich hedge restoration at Dubbs Moss

Species-rich hedge restoration at Dubbs Moss

The aim of the project is to undertake restoration of the old, overgrown, species-rich boundary hedges. This will be achieved using traditional Cumbrian hedge laying and coppicing methods. We will also undertake habitat improvements to the scrub areas for breeding birds and the species rich grassland to maintain a mosaic habitat. The surrounding land is intensively managed pasture, so it is necessary to ensure stock-proof boundaries to prevent stock entering and damaging the site. Works include: 1) coppicing or laying of old hedges 2) replanting where there are gaps 3) renewing fencing along boundary line 4) scrub clearance and management
