Spodden Grassland Restoration

This project will restore grasslands in Spodden Valley Nature Reserve, Whitworth. Supervised community sessions will be delivered to carry out the management tasks. Volunteers will learn grassland restoration and management skills for future management. The aim is to increase the biodiversity of the site and extend the species rich grasslands already there.
Part of this restoration is to eradicate invasive species which are threatening the grasslands. Mapping of invasive plant species will be carried out immediately, followed by the herbicide treatment of areas of Japanese knotweed and practical volunteer sessions to eradicate Himalayan balsam.
