Springfield Sensory Garden

To create a new sensory garden area within the St Albans campus of Oaklands College adjacent to the building used to provide specialist provision for those students requiring greater support. The garden will be adjacent to a new fenced area for the sole use of the students but the sensory garden will be permanently accessible to the wider public. The garden area is also adjacent to a well used bridleway that runs through the site and will have widespread benefits. The work will improve a currently neglected area and will involve the management of existing overgrown vegetation, the creation and planting of new beds and the installation of appropriate structures and furniture. The garden will be created by our Green Team which is a 14 week training programme for local unemployed people. The proposed garden is adjacent to Springfield which is the specialist provision catering for young people who have complex needs and/or learning difficulties including those needing medical support to access the curriculum.
