Sprucing Up Summer Leys

Summer Leys is an important wetland in the Nene Valley, designated an SSSI (and part of an SPA) for its migrant and wintering wildfowl and waders. It is close to Northampton and Wellingborough and one of the best visited sites in the Nene Valley. The project will: •Install a new stone path with better drainage between the bird feeding station and Kim’s Corner; •Upgrade the feeding station itself; •Install permanent fencing around the sandmartin nesting area; •Repair paths and upgrade kissing gates to maintain access; •Cut paths and hedgerows to maintain access; •Repair hides; •Top grassland areas; •Willow pollarding or tree surgery; •Install eight new entrance signs and a new welcome board; •Install two dog bins.
