St Andrew’s Church Soham PCC

This project will involve the complete replacement of the lead roofs to north and south transepts and repairs to associated high level stonework, timber repairs, gutters and downpipes.

As part of a successful bid to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the project also includes a range of heritage engagement activities which will run alongside the capital works, finishing in September 2024. The Amey Community Fund grant will go specifically towards the repair work.

The church is Grade I listed and has been on Historic England’s Heritage at Risk Register since 2018. All the lead roof coverings are slipping and cracking. Rainwater goods need overhauling and masonry is friable. This project will ensure that this part of the building is in good condition for another 100 years or more, and the important monuments and misericords in these parts of the church will be protected from potential water damage from the leaking roofs.
