St Andrew’s Church Tower Appeal, Church of St Andrew, Marks Tey, Colchester

This is a project for essential repairs to the tower of a 900 year old Grade I Listed building. The 18m tower is unusual, with half of masonry construction, half oak framed (dated 1494) with elm board planks, topped by a spire last that was re-shingled following war damage. The work includes renewing the shingles to the spire, replacing a broken weathervane, provision of a new lightning conductor, repairs and strengthening to the tower frame, replacing the damaged elm boards with thicker new oak 32mm x 300mm x 3200mm, new cover strips, and new louvres. The project will also involve repointing and repairs to brick and stonework.
