St Andrews Park, Bristol - Pond Restoration (008305)

The project will help save the deteriorating existing pond and its associated biodiversity, create an improved wildlife habitat and ensure a more welcoming and inclusive space for the whole community. The entrance and pathways will be widened to enable disabled and wheelchair users, and those with children in pushchairs and buggies, to access the area. Repairs to the old and damaged pond liner will ensure water levels remain healthy, and removal of a build-up of silt and invasive plant species will enhance the biodiversity. The organisation plan to reuse old materials to build a hibernaculum (or over-wintering safe space) for amphibians and a bug hotel. The project will also increase the engagement of local residents, park users and nearby nurseries and schools by providing a practical space for involvement in pond maintenance sessions and wildlife spotting activities, and valued quiet contemplation.
