To create a new footpath link across Pondfield Recreation Ground. The project aims to construct a new tarmac footpath link from Wilson Marriage Road across the recreation ground, which is owned and managed by Colchester Borough Council, to link with St Dominic Road. This footpath will follow the desire line in the grass which has been used for many years. The new footpath will provide a smooth surface for all users especially over winter when the current ground conditions become very wet and muddy. The new footpath link will replace the unusable footpath which runs around the edge of the recreation ground.
The new footpath will benefit dog walkers, school children, park users and community centre users and especially residents who live at the north end of the recreation ground. The footpath will link to the bridge which leads over the railway line. This is the only access point across the railway line within a 500m radius and links the two housing estates.
