St Catharine’s Church, Scholes – Restoration of Spire

In 1860, 20 years after the church was built, there was subsidence due to mining. This has caused the tower and spire to lean. Repair work was done at the time but recent movement has caused the structure to lean further. After investigations, it has been discovered that the church is built on sand and the tower and spire is required to be underpinned urgently.
