St Christopher’s Church Springfield, Birmingham – Refurbishment including kitchen, storage, access (007723)

The project will create a new kitchen facility within the church which will transform the way the users offer hospitality and welcome to current and new users of the building. Currently the church kitchen is around 6.5m2 and is situated in the only access from the church into the garden. This means that it is both too small for its current usage and represents a hazard when it is (frequently) used as a thoroughfare, which is particularly problematic when children’s groups wish to access the outside space. The plan is to relocate the new kitchen to a safe part of the building and, in so doing, enlarge and modernise it to make it fit for purpose, meeting current health and safety standards and Building Regulations in full. Plan are to build new and improved storage around the building to enable safer, more efficient ways of working for the different groups using the space and to install two new ramps to ensure that all parts of the building are safe and accessible for all.
