St Erth Riverside Regeneration & Community Access Project - Phase 2

The project aims to protect and enhance a well‑used riverside footpath along the River Hayle at St Erth, ensuring it remains safe, accessible, and sustainable for community use. The footpath is a valued local amenity used regularly by residents and visitors for walking, recreation, and access to the surrounding area.
Phase 1 of the project successfully revitalised sections of the footpath by reinforcing areas of riverbank suffering from erosion, improving safety and stability along the route. The effectiveness of these works has been clearly demonstrated, providing confidence to extend the approach to additional locations.
Phase 2 will build on this success by installing post and brash naturalised erosion‑control structures at three further locations where bank erosion is currently narrowing the footpath and posing increasing long‑term risks to path access and river health. In addition, a fourth site with gentler bank erosion has been identified, where reed planting will be introduced to stabilise the bank, enhance biodiversity, and contribute to improved water quality.
By addressing erosion and safeguarding the footpath, the project will protect an important public amenity, reduce the risk of future access restrictions, and support continued community enjoyment of the riverside environment. The works will deliver lasting benefits by combining practical land management with environmentally sensitive methods, ensuring the footpath remains available and resilient for years to come.
