St John the Evangelist PCC Waterbeach

To replace an area of the roof, carry out repairs and install a new lightning conductor at St John the Evangelist Church in Waterbeach (Grade II*). The need for the work followed a series of inspections by our church architect, who first identified an ingress of damp. We followed up with a roof inspection that revealed the need for further repairs to stonework and the roofing itself. The lightning protection for the Church falls short of current standards that require two conductors for the tower. Regulations require that if roof work is commissioned, the second conductor must be installed. We have therefore decided to install the second conductor while the other roofing work is underway. The cost forms part of the total figure for this project but the grant is not being requested towards the conductor.
