St John the Evangelist, Upper Norwood – Underpinning

This project will underpin the foundations of the church of the 19th Century, Grade II* Listed Church building to stop further decline. The work planned will include: •Removal of a tree in the vicinity of the West to facilitate underpinning•Relocation of two sets of human remains (ashes)•Underpin the tower•Underpin external walls of the South aisle and Lady Chapel•Dismantle Lady Chapel altar, reredos and communion rail and set aside•Lift internal tiled and woodblock floors on the South side for refixing at a future date•Provide temporary support to the heating/radiator system and maintain 2 chapel, 1 tower, 5 aisle radiators•Provide new floor structure to South aisle, tower and Lady Chapel. Over the past 25 years, the building has been subject to subsidence, which has resulted in the South aisle, tower and Lady Chapel detaching from the main structure, with falling masonry inside and out.
