St Mary’s Church Illingworth

St Mary’s Illingworth (1777) is Grade II Listed. Its architectural and artistic qualities, together with its age and historic associations, give it ‘special interest in a national context’. In the 1970s community rooms were added to the west end and later expanded into the interior of the nave, the vestry and baptistery, becoming formally established as the Illingworth Centre. This Neighbourhood Centre remains integral to the Church, is well-resourced and permanently staffed by community workers serving North Halifax an area of Multiple Deprivation. By contrast the Church itself which includes a fine chancel and west tower is now in a state of considerable disrepair.
