St Mary’s Church, Limington – Lighting Project

The electrical system for the lighting within the church dates from the early 20th century. Whilst it has been maintained over the years in its last full test and survey in 2014 the system was found to have reached the stage where it is ‘liable to cause injury’ and needs to be replaced. On advice from the Architect and the Diocesan Advisory Committee, and insistence by the insurers (Ecclesiastical Insurance Group) the PCC are looking to ensure not only that the faulty wires and fittings are replaced but also that the lighting provided in the building is in line with accessibility guidelines, that it uses components which are as sustainable as possible and environmentally friendly in their construction and use, and that the lighting will enhance the heritage of the architecture. Basically it will mean the building can continue to be sued by the community and its visitors.
