St Mary’s Church, Newport – Chancel roof, Buttress, Stairs and Gable repairs

The work is to replace the lead chancel roof and repair the internal roof structure. The chancel parapet walls will be repointed, and problems with water ingress from gutters and rot in the gutter sole dealt with.
Repairs will be made to the vestry roof which has slipped tiles and failed battens. The stair to the first floor porch has movement of its external walls, fractures in the newel stair and decaying masonry and will be repaired. Other repairs will be done to the buttress to the south aisle and the north transept gable and a new churchyard gate will be installed.
