St Mary’s Church, Wooton – Boiler Housing

The project as a whole provides for the reordering of the church. Phase 1 comprises the removal of pews at the western end and installation of heating; Phase 2 comprises of the removal of the asbestos boiler housing; Phase 3 is for the provision and installation of toilet accommodation.

The church’s old boiler house is contaminated with asbestos, it has been professionally sealed to make it safe; however, it represents a continuing liability. The environment will be greatly improved by removing an unattractive and contaminated boiler house. There will be a significant aesthetic and public safety gain — to the benefit of the public welfare in the village. The community will feel altogether safer for knowing that the source of the contamination has been scrupulously cleaned.
